    COLOR CONVERSION AND WATER SHED SEGMENTATION FOR RGB IMAGES

    In this paper we describes the conversion preserves feature discriminability and reasonable color ordering, while respecting the original lightness of colors, by simple optimization of a nonlinear global mapping. Experimental results show that our method produces convincing results for a variety of color images. The required luminance adjustments are small and always lie within 1% of the mean luminance. We describe the implementation and plastic measurement is a result of a Razor-based hardware loop-accelerator (RZLA), applying the Sobel edge-recognition formula. Unlike microprocessors, the RZLA pipeline is data path-dominated with statically-scheduled control which has queue-based storage structures that are simply extended to aid check-pointing and recovery. The RFF is deployed along with an amount-sensitive latch-insertion based formula to deal with the minimum-delay constraint contained in all Razor systems. This formula enables using the time period for timing speculation resulting in robust error recognition and correction across a large dynamic current- and frequency-scaling range

    PREPARATION AND EVALUATION OF SIMVASTATIN TRANSDERMAL FILM

    Objective: The objective of the study was to prepare simvastatin transdermal films for the treatment of atherosclerosis and to evaluate the effect of concentration of polymer on penetration enhancement. Methods: Solvent evaporation technique was employed for the preparation of films and the prepared films were evaluated for various physicochemical properties of films such as tensile strength, thickness, surface pH, swellability, drug content, moisture content and folding endurance. In vitro drug, release study and release kinetics were also studied. Results: Tensile strength ranged from 3.56±0.343 to 4.56±0.12 (N/mm²). The films were of uniform weight. Thickness varied from 0.2±0.3 mm to 0.2±0.8 mm. Surface pH ranged from 6.6±0.14 to 6.9±0.16. Percentage swellability ranged from12.1±0.36 to 16.3±0.22. Percentage drug content ranged from 88.4±0.7% to 90.5±0.6% in all the formulation. Percentage moisture content ranged from 0.864 to 1.03%. Moisture uptake was from 2.6±0.24 to 2.9±0.072. The folding endurance test gave satisfactory results and F3 formulation showed maximum drug release. Conclusion: From the study, it was concluded that out of various formulations, the F3 formulation was found to be the optimum formulation with 88% drug release at the fourteenth hour

    The purpose of this paper is to review the concept of sustainability, theoretical background and strategic green orientation (SGO) to develop an in-depth understands for the benefit of organizational performance (OP). Theoretical background outlines how triple bottom line and ecological modernization viewpoints relate with SGO and OP towards the sustainability to develop a research framework. The paper discloses a series of gaps in sustainability related theories and empirical research at business organizations and recommends a quantitative research approach and method for an empirical study on SGO of business organizations in tourism industry of Sri Lanka. Proposed study expects that new relationships could be discovered and theorized. This may address identified research gaps and would contribute to the body of knowledge. The findings of proposed research could be useful to future research initiatives on green business modeling for the sustainability in terms of triple bottom line: economic, environmental, and social performance.  Article visualizations

    Design and Fabrication of Garlic Peeler

    Garlic is an important and economical plant. It has many uses in medicinal, culinary and ayurvedic purposes. Garlic peeling is a tedious, time consuming and laborious work. So far, traditional peeling methods are used for garlic peeling. These methods are observed to be unhygienic, laborious and caused high damage to garlic segments. Mechanical peelers available are costly and not affordable to small scale industries. Since, the traditional methods are laborious and mechanical methods are costly there is a need to develop low cost, mechanical peeler that will reduce the drudgery. Angular iron and flat iron was used for main frame and supporting the main units. A food grade rubber and mild steel pipe was used for rubber roller. Iron bar was used for shaft. A wire mesh was used as screen. Dimensions of garlic segments were measured using digital vernier callipers and weight of each garlic segment was measured using electronic balance. Moisture content, orthogonal dimensions, weight, geometric mean diameter, sphericity, equivalent mean diameter, shape factor, terminal velocity and drag coefficient of garlic segments were found. Moisture content of garlic segments was 59.36±0.87% (w.b). At this moisture content, average length, width and thickness of garlic segments were found to be 25.818 3.743 mm, 10.116 2.209 mm and 7.34 1.638 mm, respectively. Average weight of individual garlic segments were found to be 1.159 g. Geometric mean diameter, sphericity, equivalent mean diameter and shape factor of garlic segments were found out to be 12.422 mm, 0.481, 13.03 mm and 0.218, respectively. The terminal velocity and drag coefficient were 18.941 m/s and 0.416 at moisture content of 59.08 ± 0.82% (w.b.). Cost of peeler was estimated to be about ₹ 10,005/-

    Management and birth outcomes of pregnant women with Chiari malformations : a 14 years retrospective case series

    Objective The management of Chiari malformations in pregnancy is challenging due to the perceived risk of adverse maternal neurological outcomes and raising intracranial pressure during labour. Our aim was to evaluate the management and health outcomes of pregnant women cared for at a regional referral center and highlight elements of best practice. Study Design A retrospective case series of all pregnant women diagnosed with Chiari malformation over fourteen years (January 2004- June 2018) at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital – UK. Results Twenty-one women (23 pregnancies) with Chiari malformation were included, four had syringomyelia (4/21,19%) and six had previously undergone craniovertebral decompression (6/21, 29%). The median age was 34-years (range 20-41), the median gravidity was two (range 1-8), the median parity was one (range 0-6), and the median extent of tonsillar herniation was 11 mm (range 9-18). The majority of women received their preferred mode of delivery (15 normal vaginal deliveries (15/23, 65.2%) and 6 elective Caesarean sections (6/23, 26.1%)) with two pregnancies ending with an emergency caesarean section for obstetric complications (2/23, 8.7%). Five Caesarean section were performed under general anaesthetic, two under spinal (2/23, 8.7%) and one under epidural anaesthesia (1/23, 4.3%) with no neurological sequelae. There were no adverse neurological outcomes at discharge postnatally. Conclusions Offering normal vaginal delivery with effective analgesia, for women with Chiari malformation, appears to be safe. Pregnancy care should be provided by a multi-disciplinary team with experience in managing Chiari malformation

    Fertility problems in women with polycystic ovary syndrome

    Background: PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome) is the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age with high prevalence. It is a leading cause of infertility in women; this draws an attention to this issue. In this study we aimed to know the prevalence, clinical features, fertility problems and management of PCOS.  Methods: In this prospective observational study, women who consulted Obstetrics & Gynaecology department were screened to identify the PCOS problems through clinical histories, PCOS questionnaire and ultrasonography over a period of 6 months at Rajiv Gandhi institute of medical sciences (RIMS) in Kadapa, India. Patients diagnosed with PCOS were assessed for their clinical manifestations, severity, life style and treatment given, and were educated accordingly through patient counselling and leaflets.Results: We observed 6.39 % prevalence out of 970 women. 59 (95.1%) patients were complained irregular menstrual cycles. Infertility was significantly high in PCOS women i.e. 13.35%. 64.4% of PCOS patients had miscarriages.Conclusions: PCOS is a complex condition with high prevalence of fertility problems, needing due attention. There is need to create attentiveness towards this issue. Early diagnosis and proper management with appropriate medicines and lifestyle modifications will improve the condition and prevents complications.

    Study on awareness and perception towards adverse drug reactions among medical and paramedical students in South India

    Background: Pharmacovigilance (PV) programme targets the monitoring of safety of drugs. It aims at promoting patient care and improving public health and also helps to assess the risk-benefit profile of medicines. The aim of the study was to assess public knowledge about medicine information, safety, and adverse drug reaction reporting (ADR) in medical and paramedical student community.Methods: It was a cross-sectional study conducted among medical and paramedical students for the period of six months from November 2021 to April 2022. The questionnaire was adopted from the literature and was validated. Content and face validities were established, and reliability was assessed. In this study a total of 364 participants returned completed questionnaires.Results: In this study, 364 students completely filled the questionnaire and out of 364 participants, 155 were males (42.58%) and 209 (57.41%) were females. Fourth year students 131 (35.98%) are highly participated in this study and indicated that final year B Pharmacy students having the perceptive knowledge towards ADR. Majority of medical and paramedical students known well about the ADRs.Conclusions: The results of this study highlighted that although the scores for knowledge of medicines, and tendency to report ADR were better, the score for knowledge regarding medication safety was unsatisfactory. There is a need for a regular training and the re-enforcement for the ADR reporting among the health care personnel both medical and paramedical students.
